5/13/2023 0 Comments A bear called paddington![]() ![]() ![]() I thoroughly enjoyed it and rated it at around 4.5 stars. Funny and quirky with a bear who has impeccable manners. Although targeted towards younger readers, I think that if you are ever in need of a quick and enjoyable read then this book is certainly suitable. I think if I had read it when I was younger I would have completely adored it and fallen in love with Paddington. Overall, I found this to be quite an enjoyable book. Along with this, Ms Bird as a character is hilarious as I have already seen the film I know that Julie Walters truly enhances the character so well. A Bear Called Paddington is a humorous childrens novel of eight chapters by the British author Michael Bond. The Browns also are enjoyable, despite the trouble which they often encounter, due to Paddington they are forgiving, knowing that he always means the best and is not deliberately causing trouble. Polite and quite charming, Paddington is a character you aren’t able to not enjoy. We progress throughout the novel as Paddington begins to appear to be a troublesome bear, despite having the best intentions as always. ![]() Reading the novel I found to be quite easy, the writing flowed so nicely and is enjoyable alongside the illustrations which go along with them. ![]() 5/12/2023 0 Comments The genocides by thomas m disch![]() ![]() And turning over huge land areas to mono-culture crop growth. It is in fact about spraying the garden - with dodgy chemicals. But that isn't really what this book is about. nigh-on every alien invader story from the 1950s on. or humanity's intrinsic superior adaptability and inventiveness e.g. The story is interesting and the bleak but realistic idea that if aliens with interstellar travel technology turned up here and didn't like us we wouldn't stand an - Earthly? - chance is in stark contrast to the much more commonplace scenario that the aliens will be defeated by their own hubris e.g. Despite the likely imminent extinction of the species, people still can't stop themselves from getting involved in destructive power politics and personal rivalries. ![]() A band of survivors in the former USA struggle against Plants, aliens and - themselves. Aliens have seeded the Earth with giant Plants that tend to eliminate all other plants by out-competing them for basic resources such as water and sunlight. ![]() 5/12/2023 0 Comments The Map of My Life by Goro Shimura![]() ![]() Shimura's many foundational works include the theory of what are known today as "Shimura Varieties," which lie at the center of the arithmetic and geometric theories of automorphic forms, and his development and applications of the theory of Complex Multiplication of abelian varieties. ![]() He supervised 28 PhD students at Princeton, many of whom are leading researchers around the world today. His lectures were very well received by students eager to master the subjects. Shimura's undergraduate and graduate courses at Princeton were polished with detail and accuracy and delivered with an unusual sense of humor. After holding positions at the Institute for Advanced Study and Osaka University, Shimura joined the Princeton faculty as Professor in 1964, moving to emeritus status in 1999. Shimura was raised and educated in Japan and received his PhD from the University of Tokyo in 1958. Shimura is renowned in the international mathematical community for shaping modern number theory and the theory of automorphic forms and for foreseeing and developing the profound interplay between these and related fields. They’re rushing around, gaining new superpowers with no satisfactory explanation, and they don’t feel human anymore. The characters aren’t living, they’re surviving. There is only one plotline I’ve ever found to be so incomplete, incomprehensible, or so filled with gaping holes, and it’s also by James Patterson, coincidentally (Confessions of a Murder Suspect). ![]() And Max is the cause of all the problems that occur in this book, rushing off like a hero in every circumstance and being quite idiotic about it, and if you read in between the lines you can detect a sort of arrogance and self-centeredness that frankly makes her not at all likable.Īnd finally, the plot. Angel is-if you read the next book or 2-starting to become some kind of monk that fails at her job and doesn’t act like a family member at all. Nudge, Gazzy, and Iggy are just THERE, only there for the benefit of making it feel a bit more like a family. Fang is the generic cool-guy who, despite being described as the pillar that the main character (Maximum Ride) relies on, did nothing. The small tidbits of humor inserted into the story add nothing to it-and in most cases, aren’t even funny. The massive ones, the ones that made the story not even worth bothering to read. ![]() But even reading the book as a 9-year-old I easily identified the flaws while reading the story. It might be surprising, given James Patterson’s reputation as both a great author and a popular one. ![]() ![]() Originally published as “Grover Lewis: An Appreciation” by Dave Hickey in the Los Angeles Times (June 1995) and revised and reprinted in Air Guitar: Essays on Art & Democracy (Art Issues Press, Los Angeles, 1997). © 1997 The Foundation for Advanced Critical Studies, Inc. Could a similar entanglement of minds explain our apparent psychic abilities? Dean Radin, senior scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, believes it might. But the latest scientific research shows that these phenomena are both real and widespread, and are an unavoidable consequence of the interconnected, entangled physical reality we live in.Īlbert Einstein called entanglement "spooky action at a distance" - the way two objects remain connected through time and space, without communicating in any conventional way, long after their initial interaction has taken place.
